Mehdi Favéris-Essadi, better known as DJ Mehdi, the beloved ‘papa’ to Ed Banger Records, would have turned 35 on today, January 20th, had he not passed away in a terrible accident on September 13th of last year.
This mix was put together by Alain Macklovitch (A-Trak), a close friend and collaborator of Mehdi’s, in memory of his life.
I only met the man once (I took this shot of the two of them together just days before the accident), but it took me just an instant to realize how much love he had to give everyone in his presence, both through his music and his kindness to anyone he met. It’s no wonder France’s greatest record label was proud to call him ‘papa’.
Rest in peace.
